United Carpet Sdn Bhd was incorporated in 1978 by Datuk Tony Yap, beginning by producing medium range machine-tufted carpets at its first factory in Ipoh. Having been at the helm for well over two decades, Datuk Yap has propelled the company from its humble beginnings to the reputable establishment that it is today. Our reliability, passion and a proven track record spanning over 30 years make us a widely trusted company for flooring solutions in Malaysia.
Throughout our pursuit of excellence and perfection, we have always held true to our founder’s belief that the best flooring solution is only as good as its installation. That is why we constantly source and invest in innovative and quality products, just as we do in professional designers and experienced consultants to ensure that every carpet is tailor-made for the ideal fit.
Today, our products and services include a fine selection of carpets that feature everything from eco-friendly to luxurious pieces with custom designs and installation services.
The ISO 9001 certification awarded to us in 2008, among others, is a testament to our dedication to the craft. Our new factory, which will be completed by the end of 2014, will not only increase our production capacity and offer more employment to the locals, but will also place us on a steady path towards our goal of earning the ISO 14001 certification. Looking forward, we will continue to push the envelope and aggressively expand into the international market as we aim for Brunei, Australia and Dubai.
Now, under the stewardship of Datuk Yap’s son Andy and daughter May, United Carpet continues to deliver uncompromising quality and impeccable customer service to a growing clientele of individuals and corporations.
1978 – 1997
Having worked in the flooring industry for several years, Datuk Tony Yap set out to start his own carpet business by incorporating United Carpet. After setting up an office in Kuala Lumpur and a factory in Ipoh, United Carpet began manufacturing medium range machine-tufted carpets.
1998 – 2007
The Asian financial crisis swept across East Asia and severely affected many businesses. United Carpet wasn’t spared from this calamity and faced a stalled income growth. Necessary cost-cutting measures including management pay cuts were taken to keep the company afloat. Thanks to Datuk Yap’s business foresight and unwavering passion, United Carpet didn’t just persevere, but swiftly got back on track and continued to prosper.
Following the recession, United Carpet went through a series of defining changes marked by the moving of its office from Dang Wangi to Damansara Utama in 1999, the opening of its first showroom in Damansara Utama in 2001, a major rebranding exercise in 2004 and the opening of its Penang office in 2006.
2008 – 2009
United Carpet earns the ISO 9001 certification in 2008, cementing its reputation and position as a major player in the flooring industry. The United Carpet Penang office is closed as part of a consolidation exercise, followed by an international expansion with the opening of the Singapore office in 2009.
2014 – Beyond
To accommodate the rapid growth of the company and the demand for its flooring solutions, United Carpet begins construction of its new factory which is scheduled for completion at the end of the same year. The new factory is built to increase production capacity, offer more employment to the locals, and ultimately earn the ISO 14001 certification.
